About the artist

Stacy Knutson has been sketching custom portraits of people and pets since she was 12 years old. It started on a typical cold Saskatchewan winter day where she sat down and sketched her sister out of boredom. It was at that moment that her family knew that she too had the artistic inclinations of both her father and grandfather.

Over the next few years her pencil sketches gained some local recognition. The parents of neighbourhood kids provided her with many custom portrait requests. When she moved to British Columbia at age 21 to get an education in science, the portrait requests also followed. She continued to draw for the people back home, as well as for interested folks on the West coast.

Her science career took her to San Diego 6 years later where she honed her drawing skills further in her off time. At this time she began painting portraits too. The requests for her work continued to spread throughout California, and gained national appeal when the wine company Great White Wines, now Shark Trust Wines, commissioned her to do an oil painting of a shark for their first labels.

She continued to draw and paint custom portraits for people as she moved to North Carolina, where she currently resides. Although she pursues the unknowns of science during the day, she is driven to draw and paint at night. She is especially inspired by the incredible beauty and selection of foliage and fauna in the American Southeast. Not to mention the incredible people there.

This inspiration has heightened the fun side of her and she has recently begun drawing cartoons and other fun works of art in addition to the custom portraits.
